Deana, Lydia, Megan and Maura visited in May and I can't verbalize how much fun we had. What a beautiful, intelligent and energetic group of people! Actually, I probably shouldn't write in detail about their visit since I am supposed to be an "adult" and really it was like stepping back into college.
We all met freshman year at Penn State and reunite at least once a year. The girls first stopped in Rome, then visited me in Naples. We spent time visiting the Island of Capri, exploring Naples, stopping in the fishing village of Pozzuoli for a seafood dinner, and we walked through my town stopping at the town square and the beach. Actually the last event caused some tension as I claimed the walk would take only 15 minutes when it took an hour and a half... and included a long uphill walk in the sun... so I was almost thrown off the Mountain my town is famous for... "Monte (mountain) di Procida."
We then hit Pompeii and traveled to Tuscany with Megan driving an enormous van/SUV to the Chianti Trail where we stayed in a little restored Hamlet. After a wine tasting, a tapas meal and professional massages from Giro (he was kinda like a sleazy Italian Fabio) we went out for a long night in the city of Siena, desperately searching for a recommended bar called "Barone Rosso" which was actually full of Americans and featured two Italians singing American covers. It was fun anyway. I then went home and the girls ended their trip in Milan.
The amazing thing about the trip was that it inspired Lyd to move to Rome! Hopefully, she will be here next year and we can continue our new tradition of reuniting abroad. I miss you girls!
